50 seconds from “A Mostly Magnificent Memoir” by Bo Bennett, our founder, in the Light-hearted look.

Two looks, two ways to tell it

Choose how your book appears on screen

Choose a look, Light-hearted or Serious, and how the book is told: as a Story, or as an Explainer for a book of ideas. You choose when you start.

Look

Light-hearted

50 seconds, from “A Mostly Magnificent Memoir” by Bo Bennett.

A hand-drawn adult-cartoon look: wobbly marker lines, grey pencil backgrounds and people in colour. Suits funny and warm books.

Look

Serious

37 seconds, from the same memoir.

A graphic-novel look in black ink and grey, with people in flat colour, slow camera moves and quieter music. Suits drama, grief, hardship and suspense.

Way to tell it

Explainer

About a minute, from “How To Sift Through Media Bullsh*t” by Bo Bennett, in his own voice.

For a book of ideas: you, drawn, presenting the book in your own words from your desk, with its examples acted out as short scenes and the key ideas written on screen.

A whole book, made here

“How To Sift Through Media Bullsh*t”, the whole film on YouTube

Our founder Bo Bennett’s guide to spotting bias, checking sources and catching the tricks that mislead us, made in this studio as an Explainer in his own voice: the whole book as one 39-minute film.

Why make a film of your book

For the first time, an author can afford to see a whole book on screen

Until recently, animating a book took a studio, a team of artists, voice actors and a budget few authors could ever raise. Now AI draws the pictures, voices the characters and writes the music, and you direct it.

See it come to life

Your characters drawn and speaking, your own sentences as the narration, your scenes on screen.

Reach people who watch

Many people who will never pick up a book will watch an episode on YouTube or a clip on their phone, and find their way back to your book.

Something to show

A finished film shows a producer or a festival what your story looks like on screen, instead of asking them to imagine it.

Something to share

A premiere night for your readers, family and friends, and a film that is yours to keep.

How it works

From upload to finished film

1

Upload, free

A book in Word, PDF, EPUB or plain text, from 1,500 words, or a screenplay you already have. Choose the look, and a Story or an Explainer.

2

Your free minute

Ask for a free one-minute sample. Afterwards you can try it in another voice from our library or in your own recorded voice, choose the font and colour of the lettering, and, for an Explainer, upload a photo so you are drawn to look like you.

3

Pay once to start

One payment, set by your book’s length and shown before you pay. It covers the screenplay, every part’s cast and voices, every part and the finished film.

4

The screenplay

Written from your whole book in your own words. You read it, ask for changes and approve it.

5

Looks and voices

Every recurring person, place and object is drawn, and each character is given a voice, automatically.

6

One part at a time

Before each part is made, you see everyone in it and approve the cast. The part is built, usually in about an hour; you watch it, change pictures, lines and music in the part editor, and approve it. That unlocks the next part.

7

Your film, released your way

Approved parts join into one HD (1080p) film. We suggest a release that suits its length: a feature film, a two-part film, a limited series, a web series of short episodes or a short film, plus vertical clips for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Reels. End it with closing credits of your own: cards of thanks, your photos if you like, and a song sung to your words. All included.

Included within set allowances: one remake of each part with your notes, new pictures in the part editor up to about six per minute of film, and up to 40 redraws of the starting looks.

Pricing

One payment, set by your book’s length

Every word of your book is kept, so a long book makes a long film. No subscription. Uploading and the one-minute sample are free; you are charged only when you start.

Questions

What authors ask first

What does the film studio make?

A hand-drawn animated film of your book, with a voice for every character, mouths that move with the lines, camera moves, sound effects and music. It is made with AI and directed by you: you approve the screenplay, each part’s cast and each part before the next is made.

Will it use my own words?

Yes. The screenplay is written from your whole book in your own words. The narration is your sentences, word for word, and quoted dialogue is used exactly. Only the action lines, which describe what we see, are new. You read the screenplay, ask for changes and approve it.

What kinds of books work?

Any book with a story to tell, such as a novel, memoir, family history or true story, filmed as a Story. A book of ideas, such as self-help, business or philosophy, can be filmed as an Explainer: you, drawn, presenting the book in your own words, with its examples acted out as short scenes and key ideas written on screen.

Can I see a sample first?

Yes. Upload your book, which is free, and ask for a free one-minute sample. The AI chooses a scene from your first chapter that should film well and makes it the same way every part of a film is made. One free sample per account.

How much does it cost?

One payment, set by your book’s length, with no subscription: from $799 for a book of up to 12,000 words to $4,499 for 110,000 words. Every word is kept, so a long book makes a long film. Longer books are quoted. You see your price before you pay, and you are charged only when you start.

How long does it take?

The film is made in parts, usually one per chapter. A part usually takes about an hour to build once you approve its cast, and you approve each part before the next one starts, so the pace is yours. You can stop after any part and keep everything made so far.

Is this the same as the $199 screenplay?

No. The screenplay service writes a script to read and to send to producers. The film studio makes the film itself, and it writes its own screenplay from your book in your own words as part of the price.

Will a film get my book picked up by a producer or a streaming service?

We cannot promise that, and nobody honestly can. A finished film shows people what your story looks like on screen, and short episodes and clips can reach viewers who would never pick up a book.

The drawings, voices and music are made with AI and directed by you. A cartoon of a real person will not be an exact likeness. Questions? Email hello@booktoscreen.pro.
