Peyton Brockler's life is destroyed when his brother, his Black wife, and their mixed-race children are murdered. Before he can understand what happened, investigators begin finding evidence that points directly at him. Records contradict his memories, witnesses appear to know things they should not know, and every attempt Peyton makes to defend himself seems to create another reason to suspect him. Peyton discovers that the killings were not random. A white-supremacist network has been manipulating records, evidence, witnesses, and institutions to hide a larger conspiracy while turning him into the perfect public villain. At the center of the operation are controlled spaces built around surveillance, psychological manipulation, forged documentation, and rooms designed to make Peyton question what he has actually seen.
