Logline
When a French compliance analyst exposes a shared financial escape route between rival criminal empires, her staged murder ignites a borderless war—and forces her estranged father to hunt a mastermind who may not exist.
Synopsis
A French compliance analyst discovers that supposedly rival criminal organizations are quietly sharing the same financial escape route. The evidence connects a Dubai ledger leak to ports, shell companies, prisons, and enforcement networks across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Élise defeats the Russian operative sent to recover the evidence, takes the second phone he has been hunting, and walks away. Without warning, a separate Chinese/Pacific cleanup team overwhelms and murders her, then places a Russian knife at the scene to turn the killing into a message and a false attribution.
Her estranged father, Dimitri Volkov, answers with forged betrayals designed to make every faction believe another has broken the rules. Contractor Alp, magistrate Roussel, money engineer Yulia, and rival power brokers follow contradictory evidence across Lyon, Antwerp, Lagos, Bangkok, Belgrade, Dubai, and Japan. Each believes a mastermind is controlling the conflict; in reality, several independent operations have collided while intelligence officials quietly allow the organizations to damage one another.
The investigation ultimately separates the Russian retrieval from the Pacific cleanup and explains how Élise became visible. Yet the war survives its explanation: Jian's notebook resurfaces, Arun's hidden institutional role deepens, and Ryuji remains alive in custody under an externally commissioned threat. The system—not any single hero or villain—is the continuing protagonist.
